HOW TO HIRE THE SKILLED...

Are you hiring? Here are the at least some of the qualities that a recruiter should look in candidates through the entire placement process. Hiring the Ideal candidate is something like needle in a haystack. Bosses often grumble that majority of the graduates they get are not up to the job. They look for fervent individuals who will be a team player, problem solver, and effective communicator with strong work ethics. The rule of thumb for the employer is always simple – choose a candidate whose return on investment is the best for the Company.

Here are the few basic characteristics to get started with:

The virtuoso performer:

This is a very important factor that should be taken into consideration by the recruiter - Quick learners usually surpass over their competition owing to their ability to learn quickly and develop expertise in various aspects that are reflected in their job responsibilities.

Soft Skills:

Soft skills have become one of the key parameters. A good communicator with upright technical skills is most hunted in the industry to ensure high customer satisfaction and value addition to the company’s integrity.

The Problem solving ability:

Problem-solving is one of the key skills sought by recruiters in job applicants. The ability to plan creative solutions and provide methodologies to forge ahead while facing a business challenge is an extremely vital skill that will make an applicant, stand out from the herd.

Hard work and determination:

Employees should be absolutely honest towards their work. Being tenacious helps them in eventually reaping the fruits of their labour, garnering appreciation for their work and earning respect for their work ethics.

Interpersonal Skills:

When we hire an individual, we hire a professional, not a person who wants to work alone and or only 8 hours a day. His attitude affects the relationships she/he has with co-workers and supervisors, as he spends ample amount of time in the day with his colleagues and need to build a rapport.
Good Team Player:

It’s a strong belief in corporate that great work comes from a cohesive team and well synced teammates. Being an integral part of a team is crucial in furthering both personal and professional growth of an employee.

Credibility and veracity:

Organisations look for employees with strong principles who are honest about themselves and their work. They seek out employees whom they can put their trust in, i.e. the ones who can accomplish tasks without compromising the standards set by the organisation.

Go-Getters:

Prospective employees shouldn’t limit themselves to just their designation and responsibilities that come with it. They should be motivated to take risks, be dynamic and challenge their creativity by undertaking projects outside their comfort zone.

Multitaskers:

The potential employee should be able to multi-task which can increase their work efficiency, improve time management and maximise output.

Any boss wants to invest in an individual who has genuine zeal and enthusiasm with regard to his/her career path and is willing to pursue a role in the company. She/he should feel proud of being part of the company and work she/he is getting into. They are drawn to candidates who would spend time with company for a long-term, with potential to be used in diverse roles.

No job is tailor-made for a potential hire or vice-versa. There are many other characteristics that are tested upon like being open to flexibility at workplace, willing to go that extra mile to achieve “beyond expectation” results in an otherwise mundane job, respect, honesty etc.

These all are the characteristics what are most looked by the recruiter during the placement.

I would end by saying that “Hiring people is an art, not a science, and resumes can’t tell you whether someone will fit into a company’s culture.” The secret of any organisation’s success is the right people on the bus and wrong people off the bus. Happy recruiting...
